Meet the Shitty Hanged People
People who have been screwing up their whole lives until they finally decided to end it… But, true to form, they even managed to mess that up. All they wanted was to hang themselves, yet they couldn’t even get that right.
This is the first in a series of sculptures dedicated to people who failed at hanging themselves.
The Shitty Hanged People are inspired by some rubber figurines I used to collect as a kid in the ’80s: the Spooky Kooky. These were small, creepy-looking characters that seemed straight out of a torture chamber, designed to be hung on a wall or carried as keychains. To this day, I’m still amazed that such toys even existed. Their crude, rough finishes and that underground comic aesthetic continue to fascinate me.
This sculpture is my tribute to those strange little toys that obsessed me as a child.
